Child labour

Child labour

Not all work performed by children is child labour. International standards define child labour as work that is hazardous to a child’s health and development, demands too many hours and/or is performed by children who are too young. Usually, child labour interferes with a child’s right to education and to play.

AIMS

The road to Target 8.7 has been long and much good work has been done already.  Alliance 8.7 accelerates these actions by focusing on three strategic objectives.

OBJECTIVE 1

Accelerate action

There is an urgent need to align country-level plans to end modern slavery and child labour with the ambitious deadlines set out in the SDGs. That’s why the Alliance identifies and works with Pathfinder Countries, which commit to significantly accelerated action.

OBJECTIVE 2

Conduct research and share knowledge

To fill data gaps in key areas, support governments on monitoring progress, and improve coordination across research agendas.

OBJECTIVE 3

Drive innovation and leverage resources

New approaches, technologies, and innovative solutions can offer an opportunity to accelerate action. The Alliance aims to foster collaboration between stakeholders to enhance innovative processes. For example, thematic Action Groups coordinate research, advocacy, and implementation in priority areas and South-South cooperation has been launched in all regions.
