Joining forces for the eradication of forced labour, modern slavery, human trafficking and child labour
AT A GLANCE
Together, we can protect fundamental human rights
Challenge
There are 160 million children in child labour, and almost 50 million adults in modern slavery, 28 million of whom are in forced labour, in the world today.
Response
Alliance 8.7 is a global partnership taking immediate and effective measures to eradicate forced labour, modern slavery, human trafficking and child labour, in accordance with SDG Target 8.7.
Objectives
The Alliance scales up solutions that work, drives innovation, and maximizes the impact of resources through strengthening engagement at the global level and action in Pathfinder Countries.
WHO WE ARE
Alliance focuses on Target 8.7 of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, which calls for us to work together to end these unacceptable violations of human rights.
ORIGINS
How was Alliance 8.7 formed?
Alliance 8.7 was launched following a series of regional consultations and workshops. The structure of the partnership is based on a consultative process led by partners.
At the first strategic workshop held in 2017, the Alliance's initial priorities and action areas were defined. In 2022, Alliance 8.7 Global Coordinating Group members and representatives of Pathfinder Countries gathered for the second strategic workshop. It was the first such workshop held since the Pathfinder Strategy was established in 2018. It was an opportunity to define the future direction of the Alliance and to reorient the focus towards action on the ground.
GOAL
What is SDG Target 8.7?
Target 8.7: “Take immediate and effective measures to eradicate forced labour, end modern slavery and human trafficking and secure the prohibition and elimination of the worst forms of child labour, including recruitment and use of child soldiers, and by 2025 end child labour in all its forms.”

PILLARS
How is Alliance 8.7 organized?
The Alliance has an inclusive, lean and flexible structure, composed of 5 main pillars:
One
A Global Coordinating Group (GCG)
The GCG gathers representatives of Alliance 8.7’s stakeholder groups and meets regularly to set goals and monitor progress. The GCG is led by a Chair (Government of Chile) and Vice-Chair (Government of Côte d’Ivoire) on a rotational basis. Se the list of GCG members here.
Two
The Secretariat
The Secretariat facilitates Alliance 8.7’s day-to-day operations, including by enabling regular communication amongst Alliance partners, supporting Pathfinder Countries and providing assistance to the GCG. The ILO currently serves as Secretariat for Alliance 8.7.
Three
Pathfinder Countries
These countries are committed to be at the forefront of the fight to achieve SDG target 8.7, driving progress on the ground. Through an inclusive approach bringing together all concerned stakeholders, Pathfinder Countries adopt Roadmaps to accelerate progress, and ensure the appropriate follow up.
Four
Partners
The Alliance brings together partners who are committed to supporting or implementing initiatives that contribute to achieve SDG target 8.7, including in Pathfinder Countries. They commit to promote or realize international human rights standards and obligations, including applicable international labour standards.
Five
Action Groups
Action Groups reflect the Alliance’s thematic priorities. Partners can join Action Groups on their field of expertise and contribute to research, policy and action on these issues.
