Claudia Fuentes Julio
Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Chile to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva. Ambassador Fuentes Julio has been Chair of the Governing Body of the International Labor Organization (ILO) from June 2022 to June 2023.
Since July 2023, she is Chair of the Global Partnership against Child Labour, Forced Labour, Human Trafficking, and Modern Slavery known as Alliance 8.7.
Her professional experience focuses on the promotion and protection of human rights and human security. As an academic, she has written extensively on foreign policy, human rights, the responsibility to protect, gender and diplomacy, and conflict resolution.
She has taught at the Department of Peace Studies at Chapman University in California, USA, the International Relations Institute (IRI) at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), Brazil, and the Department of Government at Alberto Hurtado University in Chile. Before she was an associate researcher at the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO-Chile).
On the multilateral front, Ambassador Fuentes Julio has collaborated closely with several United Nations entities on various projects. These covered a wide spectrum, ranging from projects on conflict prevention and recovery, gender, and disarmament in Latin America, to developing strategies on human security and multilateral institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean. She also worked as an election monitor for the Organization of American States.
Ms. Fuentes Julio has a Ph.D. in international studies from the University of Denver in the United States. She also has a master’s degree in international relations from the University of Kent in the United Kingdom and a diploma in journalism from the University of Santiago de Chile.
