Side event during the Latin America and the Caribbean Free of Child Labour (RILAC) annual meeting.
Every year since 2020, the Alliance has brought together focal points of Pathfinder Countries to collaborate, exchange experiences, address challenges, discuss progress and collectively advance towards the achievement of SDG Target 8.7. This year an exchange session will be organized linking to the preparations for the Sixth Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour.
In the build-up to the Sixth Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour, hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco in February 2026, tripartite regional consultations are being held to gather inputs to the Conference’s outcome. The Pathfinder Country (PFC) exchange will be an opportunity for Pathfinder Country from all regions to share experiences, to discuss key recommendations emerging from these consultations, and to define the priorities of Pathfinder Countries leading up to the Conference.
To maximize efficiencies, the exchange will take place during the annual meeting of the Regional Initiative Latin America and the Caribbean Free of Child Labour (RILAC), with the support of the Government of the Netherlands and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). In Latin America and the Caribbean, the exchange will count on the active participation of the regions’ eight PFCs, which will intervene not only on behalf of their countries, but also as representatives of the collective commitment of RILAC to advance towards a region free of child labour.
The RILAC is a unique tripartite mechanism comprising 31 countries, with employers’ representatives nominated by the IOE, and workers’ representatives nominated by the CSA/ITUC. Since 2014, RILAC has coordinated joint actions in the region towards Target 8.7, providing lessons learned and progress that constitute a fundamental basis for alignment with Alliance 8.7 and global processes.

🌍 Interpretation will be provided into English, French and Spanish.
The main objectives of the session are:
- To share experience on the added value of Alliance 8.7 and RILAC in fostering the exchange of knowledge and experiences that accelerate progress towards SDG 8.7
- To share across regions the thematic priorities emerging from the regional consultations leading up to the Sixth Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour, with RILAC acting as a bridge from Latin America and the Caribbean
- For Pathfinder Countries to define inputs for the Conference on the vision and priorities of the Alliance going forward, linking also to the envisaged Alliance 8.7 side event. For Pathfinder Countries to commit in principle to bringing forward the recommendations coming out from the Conference (the outcome document) in the future implementation of their Roadmaps and eventual Roadmap updates
- To strengthen the Pathfinder Country community, build better connections amongst focal points and strengthen communications between Pathfinder Country focal points, while reinforcing synergies with RILAC’s tripartite coordination.
